New Video: Sade's Soldier of Love

Alright bitches, I'm gonna be completely honest. I LOVE SADE. Homegirl is like 60 years old and she still makes sexy thoughtful adult music for sexy thoughtful adults like myself. This song is great, and this video is pretty great too (if you assume the desert setting and Enya-esque mood is some kind of postmodern parody of itself).

New Video: 8 Bit Trip

YW co-founder and former writer (I think it's fair me to refer to the rest of the YW team as former writers and contributors) That Dude put me on to this video. Some bored Swedish dudes spent 1500 hours taking pictures of Legos, moving them slightly and then taking more pictures. The end product was this video.

Japanese TV: Pankun and James

From what I can tell, this Chimp/ Bulldog combo is about the best thing that came off Nipon-Koku's small screen since Ninja Warrior. Please watch these, and let me know what you think. That way, if your heart isn't warmed, I'll know you're one of the undead and remember to keep my distance.

Old Videos: Bjork

Sorry I've been a bit lazy with the posts lately, but I have been a combination of busy and, well, a pothead...so it is pretty hard to get things done. Anyway, I was watching some Bjork videos yesterday, and thought it a good idea to post, just in case we haven't seen em.
Bjork- Wanderlust
There is nothing about Bjork that makes me think she is sane. It certainly doesn't help when your videos make you look like a Sami ronin. Nevertheless, the video for Bjork's fourth single off her sixth album, Volta, is about as good as they get. Created by Encyclopedia Productions, Wanderlust uses claymation, animation, CGI, and live action to create the Norse dreamworld through which Bjork wanders.

Bjork- All is Full of Love
From Homogenic, All is Full of Love is a gem of a song. It strikes a balance which is perfect for Bjork, odd and industrial, yet cinematic and catchy. Chris Cunningham exhibits a refined directorial precision and timing allowing us to be enthralled and comfortable, even though the video is so topically strange (lesbian robot stuff).

Bjork- Hyperballad
Michel Gondry directed this stellar video for my what is probably my favorite Bjork Song; Hyperballad. The song comes from the album Post (an essential for anyone with good taste in music). It makes me think of the Matrix in paper-machete, and you can see the influence it had on videos such as Wanderlust.

The Hasaad Meat Market Incident

Throwback! Below are five audio clips of a series of prank calls delivered to a deli owner in San Francisco. The argument over the sale of a "bad sandwich" took place over the course of three years and, over time, the caller and the deli owner develop quite a comedic chemistry together.  I first heard this in college, but to this day this is one of the funniest things I've ever found on the internet. The usage of racial slurs (all in good fun!) and expletives is legendary. Listen to the first one, if you like it AT ALL, do yourself a favor and listen to the other four. I don't see how any reader of this blog couldn't feel this.

Will You Be Here Tomorrow?

This is a safety video shown in training exercises for factory workers. Not only is it unbelievably funny but some of the special effects are pretty impressive. If you laugh when people fall down, watch this video. If not, your readership is not appreciated, and we'd like for you to stop visiting YW. Thanks.

Lifelines

Been awhile since Signor Pizzabagel graced the pages and for that I sincerely apologize; however, I think that you will find the Lifelines trailer very enticing.  I will admit that this is a shameless plug for my boy, Rob Margolies.  He is an extremely talented writer/producer/director and this is his debut film.  Lifelines opens in New York April 3rd at the Quad Cinema.  Be sure to check out Different Duck Films for more information on Rob, the movie, and future endeavors.

Just a few details and some accolades:

- The movie stars Joe Morton, Josh Pais, and Jane Adams.

- "Lifelines is a fine, strong film!" - Robert Ebert

- WINNER! Best American Indie Film at the 2008 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival

- WINNER! Best Feature Film - Rhode Island International Film Festival 2008

- WINNER! Best Feature Film - Philadelphia Independent Film Festival 2008

PRE#&DENT PLEASE! A New Linguistic Phenomenon

Recently NY1 went up to Harlem to expose a new vernacular trend which replaces the word ni*#ga with president. Yes, it seems that, at least according to this reporter and a few convinced citizens of Uptown, the N-word is fading, and fast. I can't even...just watch the clip. Some of my thoughts and questions below.

- I can't decide if this trend is good or bad or stupid.
- I can't decide if it is culturally appropriate for me to decide that.
- This isn't a parody, is it? It is clearly NY1, correct?
- "It's a struggle out here man. Nothing rhymes with president. You know what I mean? It's multi-syllabic." Might be the best quote ever.
- Is that girl in seventh grade? Really? Not bad.
- Jamal called his enemy/friend (in the fight) a "bitch-ass president". Can the word be used in a negative way, or does it always have a positive undertone? Also, do you think that those kids staged their fight for the cameras? If so, well done gents.
- That professor teaches at my school.
- What the fuck is that Menace II Society: Re Release nonsense? That's a joke, right?
- That guy with the Sam Cassell dome really gets heated. In response to his conviction, I would present a situation in which one might meet or refer to a head of state. What then?
- I am not sure how I feel about this whole thing. I guess it is good that the n-word is being replaced (who am I to judge), but I cant help but feel a bit uneasy. Is there something racist about this clip? But what? Is it due to the quality of reporting? Or is it because I find this funny and it's not supposed to be and its about black people, which might make me racist? Or am I racist because I felt uneasy about laughing at it, as opposed to letting loose sans guilt when watching similar videos about white people? I don't think that is it.
I am uneasy because confusion makes me uneasy. I am confused because this is an incredibly weighted clip.
- Indeed, these are very strange times to be alive.

thanks to Liz for putting me on!
